Witches Don't Like Lakes
Why? He asks, concerned
Inquisition, I guess, I reply
Churches, says the voice of the Muse
I nod
Well, no need to worry; the inquisition was a long time ago
Flashbacks, I respond quietly
Besides, being on the bottom of the lake is nice,
Pleasant and shady and cool, he consoles
I shake my head no
Icy
I would rather live with the Raven who sits high on top of
the Temple of Apollo where the Oracle of Delphi resides
The air is rarer there
You can breathe
You can imagine
You can love
March Madness
March rushes in like a lion
bringing with her,
a roaring spring storm.
The patched up old roof
leaks one last time,
making nice brown designs
like flowers
in the kitchen tiles above.
If I weren't so practical,
I'd swear they were angel wings
fluttering up there,
making me delirious
with religious fervor.
By the time the lamb arrives
so will the new shingles,
siding, and a big bill.
Then we'll see
what beast,
lurking in the shadows,
creeps up next
bringing with it
a new, nocturnal surprise.
