Christina Cowling is the author of Soulground for Women and Flexing my Muse. Christina Cowling's poetry has also appeared in Captains of Consciousness Journal,  Poetry Canada, Anthologies put out by the Canadian Author's Association and newspapers such as The Herald and Valley News in Saskachewan and The Millbrook Times in Ontario.  Her short stories have been published in Storyteller, New England Writers, Evangel, Purpose and Assemblies of God Magazines.

Beyond Me

My prelude to tomorrow just beginning,
a gale of emptiness
prevents my heart from natural rhythm.

I hesitate to heal too suddenly.

The hours fled have brought a dying moment
and from the hand I stroke
no faint grip's given me

yet far beyond the grave is everlasting--
eternal breath blowing away
death's mystery

and somewhere beyond sorrow
the author of my journey
wrote my healing pages.

I retreat from the sun,
the poplars,
the streams,
the grass growing up
in the meadows.
Stretched out on my bed,
loss breaks me.
Tested, I battle with death,
suffer the pangs of the lonely,
cry out like a woman in labour
Held in the Potter's Hands,
I am pieces of clay
He's remolding.
