Cyclamens and Swords Publishing was founded in 2008 by Johnmichael Simon and Helen Bar-Lev. The name is taken from their illustrated book of poetry published by Ibbetson Street Press in 2007 the opening stanza of which appears below:
"Life should be sunflowers and poetry
symphonies and four o’clock tea
instead it’s entangled
like necklaces in a drawer
when you reach in for cyclamens
you pull out swords"
This issue contains poems by 52 poets, short stories by 10 authors and artwork from 5 artists and photographers.
Cyclamens and Swords Publishing, influenced by the dichotomy of beauty and conflict that characterizes the world we live in, presents this site as an outlet and home for poets, writers and artists from all countries and outlooks.
WE ARE TAKING A SABBATICAL!
Cyclamens and Swords will not publish any new issues during 2016.
This is now our 8th year of publishing and after 23 issues we feel that we deserve a rest.
So we will not be accepting any new submissions at present. We will, however, continue to accept chapbooks for publication during 2016.
Thanks to all our contributors, poets, writers and artists who have supported us over the years.
Looking forward to seeing you all again in 2017.
Helen and Johnmichael
